Another anthology has opened up, and I've got an idea for what to send them. I don't know why, but this link didn't populate the first time. Here it is, below. https://broadswordsandblasters.wordpress.com/2022/03/01/open-call-broadswords-and-blasters-presents-futures-that-never-were/
If Crichton and Ludlum wrote an “End-Times” novel…. (9 stars out of 10, but we’ll round up)
magine the laboratories of Jurassic Park and State of Fear, the dangers of The Lost World and Eaters of the Dead, all of the intrigues and firepower of the Jason Bourne trilogy, rolled into one. And now add a cameo appearance by the Mother of God, come to say that the fate of all mankind is at stake.
Get the Government out of Schools
A case against the State monopoly on education: article by Kerry McDonald, reposted from FEE.org; Whether it’s yesterday’s battles over prayer in school or today’s conflicts over critical race theory, public schooling causes people to fight. It’s a struggle between values and viewpoints that ends with one group imposing its will upon others. The curriculum… Continue reading Get the Government out of Schools
Quotes After Midnight, Vol. 1
Power always thinks it has a great soul and vast views beyond the comprehension of the weak and that it is doing God’s service when it is violating all His laws. ~ John Adams Some of these quotes will be from major celebrities. Some were from noteworthy essays and works of literature. Some of them… Continue reading Quotes After Midnight, Vol. 1
Signal Boost: God, Man, and the Hierarchy
Where do you belong?God, Man, and the Hierarchy
Hans Schantz at ÆtherCzar has launched his Thanksgiving Ratburger Sale: all books at 99¢ or free, through the first week of December.
Propaganda: Don’t Acknowledge Any Argument
Once again, Joe Moore’s Yard Sale has just what was needed this afternoon.
I think it was Goebbels who said: Lie big, and stick to it. Never answer, or even acknowledge, any criticism. Soon, your lie will become accepted wisdom, and any questioning of it will be seen as insane, evil, or both.
We’re there. The successes of this strategy are not merely numerous and ubiquitous, but form the basis of modern culture. For example:
Marriage is optional. Divorce is morally neutral, if not a positive good. Nothing bad happens when families are built on less than a handshake and destroyed on less than a whim. The vey idea that it is a great evil for a child to be deprived of a mother and father and a home is terrible bigotry.
Homosexuality is a positive good, at least as good as heterosexual relationships. The very idea that there is any reason besides base bigotry and fear (‘homophobia’) that virtually every culture throughout…

Pre-Modern Ironsmithing (Again)
This is the second post of the Ironsmithing set from the Unmitigated Pedantry blog: it's a week late because the original blogger split Pt. 4 into two sections. So without further ado, here are parts III, IVa, and IVb. https://acoup.blog/2020/10/02/collections-iron-how-did-they-make-it-part-iii-hammer-time/ https://acoup.blog/2020/10/09/collections-iron-how-did-they-make-it-part-iva-steel-yourself/ https://acoup.blog/2020/10/16/collections-iron-how-did-they-make-it-part-ivb-work-hardening-or-hardly-working/
I've been following A Collection of Unmitigated Pedantry recently, and the blogger's running a four-week series on pre-modern blacksmithing: this is gold for my current WIP, as the VC is part of a "primitive" or what we'd think of as a "stone-age" tribe threatened by an "early iron-age" empire (pseudo-Roman, with more bronze and a… Continue reading Pre-Modern Ironsmithing.

Tracing the Arkenstone
Whence came the Heart of the Lonely Mountain, the Arkenstone of Thrain? What do we know about the Heart of the Mountain? It was found by the children of Durin beneath the Lonely Mountain, and it shown with its own inner light, as even the hobbits attest in the Red Book of Westmarch.
Everything they’ve told us is suspect. (Autism, this time)
Thanks to Ido Kedar's calling attention to it, I'm excited to see news that the Accepted Position on "Facilitated Communication" is not only bunkus, but demonstrably bunkus. The Usual Suspects haven't chimed in, AFAIK, but the linked study asserts a pretty firm case for letter-board communication being (frequently, if not usually) real and legitimate communication… Continue reading Everything they’ve told us is suspect.
